Mars in Aries June 27th through January 7, 2021 – Mars retrograde September 9th through November 13th. Mars will retrograde between 28 and 15 degrees of Aries.
In this report and the video companion which you will find by clicking the video tab, I’m going to discuss what Mars in the sign of Aries represents on a national and personal level using all of the keywords and sentences that represent the characteristics of Mars in Aries. I will also talk about what it means when it is in retrograde motion. Retrograde motion only happens every two years and this is the first time since 1988 that Mars has been retrograde in the sign of Aries so I’ll cover that as well. This will give us insight into global concerns and actions as well as personal insight for you and me. Taking this a step further for the personal touch, I will take us on journey around the chart and talk about what Mars in each house represents. You can then look at your own chart if you are literate in Astrology and gather more insight for yourself.
I feel this is an important time in all of our lives and for the earth to understand where and how we can take inspired action and what we can expect over the coming 6 months, based off of prior experiences and the qualities of Mars in Aries.
The most basic keywords for Mars in the sign of Aries are “I AM.” Mars is in his own sign while in Aries so this is all very natural, meaning there are no adjustments to be made which is necessary when planets are not in the signs they rule.
Mars in Aries is action, drive, inspiration, passion, competition, enthusiasm, desire, excitement. It’s that creative spark that begins life, brings life to a project or an idea. Mars in Aries is not necessarily an energy that completes what it starts but it’s the inspiration to begin things. That’s its job to inspire us to move along and to keep things going.
We are fortunate in many ways that Mars is in his own sign because we get the purest of energy with Mars this way. Of course, how things turn out will depend on how we choose to use it. This is because there are also challenging traits within the characteristics of each planet, zodiac sign and human beings. We all have positive and challenging traits within us. We can also learn from all them, but the challenging traits don’t feel as good, as they tend to be the tougher lessons which for some reason humans seem to gravitate to.
Some of the challenging traits will show up as being impatient, selfishness, having a quick temper, rushing through things, being too impulsive and not thinking things through, creating conflict instead of healthy competition, being forceful and aggressive.
I also want to address that these energies can come from somebody else, and of course “somebody else” is only a reflection of who we are. If somebody in your space is aggressive towards you and it triggers you, then you know it is something you need to look at within yourself. This is an opportunity to step back and look at what’s going on in your world, ask yourself why is this person triggering me? Doing this will help you to learn about yourself and understand yourself even more. Personally, I’ve discovered at times when I feel somebody’s being too aggressive and I don’t like it, then I know I have to look at myself and I say OK why am I feeling this way? What I usually discover is I am not taking action somewhere in my life because I don’t have the courage to and something within me is upset with this person for showing that to me. However, it has nothing to do with them. It has everything to do with me and the action I’m not taking. You see my Mars is in Aries in the 12th house so taking risks and being aggressive or finding courage is not the easiest thing for me to do. I’ll go through the houses in a few minutes I just wanted to give you a personal example so you could relate.
The potential for what’s going on here with Mars in Aries for the next six months is significant for all of us. First off this is because Mars typically will only spend 6 weeks in a Zodiac sign but when it is retrograde, which happens every two years, it will spend approximately 6 months in one particular area of the Zodiac. This time it remains completely in Aries for the full retrograde which is why it takes 6 months to move through an area that typically takes 6 weeks. We have a significant amount of time now to do and experience a lot of different things that I’ve already talked about here today.
A lot of times when Mars is in Aries and even on that first day of spring when the Sun enters the sign of Aries there’s a lot of competitiveness and combativeness. Mars is the God of War after all. Now does this mean a war is about to begin? Not necessarily but time will tell. If you look at the state of the nation right now you would think we were already in a revolution. I think we are.
As I have already mentioned Mars does move through Aries every two years so that is not uncommon, what is uncommon is the last time he was retrograde in Aries was August 26, 1988 through October 27, 1988 and his movement was from 11 Aries to 29 Pisces as “he backed into Pisces for one week”.
With the world currently in such a state of transformation and upheaval sometimes I think the only way to create the change we have been striving for is to have Mars in Aries for an extended period of time, which we do starting June 27, 2020 thru January 7, 2021. During this time, we will find the courage to stand up for what we believe in and to take action where we have not been able to take action before. We have already seen a lot of aggression and assertion in May and June 2020 but once Mars gets into the sign of Aries on June 27, 2020, we will see Aries activity amp up even more.
Here are few things that happened the last time Mars was retrograde in Aries.
Jul 16, 1988 The Rev. Jesse Jackson arrived in Atlanta for the Democratic national convention, telling cheering supporters he was seeking “shared responsibility” with nominee-apparent Michael Dukakis. A very Aries event saying look at how good we are, look at what we will do for you.
The Movie Die Hard with Bruce Willis opening day was the day Mars entered Aries, July 14 1988. Lots of aggressive Aries energy in this move and that is the whole plot. I think they had an Astrologer to help them launch this successful movie.
And a few random but BIG things from Wikipedia
1988 was a crucial year in the early history of the Internet—it was the year of the first well-known computer virus, the 1988 Internet worm. The first permanent intercontinental Internet link was made between the United States (NSFNET) and Europe (Nordunet) as well as the first Internet-based chat protocol, Internet Relay Chat. The concept of the World Wide Web was first discussed at CERN in 1988.
The Soviet Union began its major deconstructing towards a mixed economy at the beginning of 1988 and began its gradual dissolution.
The Iron Curtain began to disintegrate in 1988 as Hungary began allowing freer travel to the West.
The first extrasolar planet, Gamma Cephei Ab (confirmed in 2002) was detected this year and the World Health Organization began its mission to eradicate polio.
I want you to look back into your own personal history, what did you begin in this time frame in 1988. Here’s mine so you have an example: I took over the family business as the owner; I just started studying astrology and I started using a computer at work. This is just to name a few examples as there was more but I hope this is enough to give an idea of how it can play out. Running the flower shop gave me business skills, and astrology give me these skills that I’m still using today. I was also an amateur bodybuilder at that time using intense Mars energy while picking up iron and putting it down.
Please remember we can use this energy any way we want, in a positive way to explore new things and to get out of our comfort zones, or in an aggressive, angry, overbearing way. History tells us we will see both positive and negative expressions in the world around us and even if it’s within us. This is your opportunity to bring something to the surface so you’re able to heal it and move through it and then let it go.
The slowing down of this high-powered energy will be during its retrograde September 9th through November 14th. That’s when we’re able to slow down enough to see where we are at, take in information we may have missed from when this started and evaluate what we have been doing since June 27.
Mars retrograde can also be very frustrating because Mars is all about forward action and not about slowing down and going within. We could end up being very judgmental and turn that anger and frustration inward or worse we may lash out at those near us by being aggressive and angry even if that does not seem to be our nature. So in a nutshell when Mars is not able to express itself in its natural state, energetically moving forward then it becomes frustrated and that is when the negative side of Mars tends to manifest itself. We will know more as we get closer to the retrograde period and I will speak more about that in August and September for sure. But in the meantime, let’s examine in a few sentences what is means if Mars is in a certain house.
When Mars moves through a house the issues of that house become energized by the Martian energy.
Mars transit the 1st House: This is Mars’ natural home. If you have this transit moving through that area of your chart this will create a lot of additional energy for you. You’ll feel more dominant, you’ll be more assertive even aggressive at times. Your physical energy will be heightened and you’ll need to plan carefully regarding how to stay active for this whole time period that Mars is in this area of your chart. It’s very independent, very upbeat, and we want to accomplish a lot. If we don’t, then the more difficult side of Mars will show itself. Be careful of bumping your head and not paying attention because this can cause accidents and arguments.
Mars transit the 2nd House: What you love and value are activated. You desire to earn more and you’re able to create new money-making ideas and plans. They can be impulsive and some of them do pay off. You are willing to take a risk when it comes to earning money and taking a creative hobby and turning that into cash. It’s advisable to do your best not to attach your ego to your possessions. That would not turn out well with this transit. If this is the case, you may feel touchy, argumentative and possessive in a way that isn’t typically you.
Mars transit the 3rd House: This activates that thinking mind and how you communicate with those around you. You are already an assertive communicator with Aries in this sector but now that Mars is there it will amplify your natural abilities even more. Information is coming at you hard and fast and you love it. The hard part will be sifting, sorting and deciding what information you want to keep and what you don’t. I think the big caution here would be if you have something to say of course it’s OK to say it. But Mars has that fighting spirit, so if you truly believe something then you’re willing to debate and argue about it rather than let your opinion be ignored. This transit feels assertive and energizing all at the same time.
Mars transit the 4th House: This area of the chart is about home and family and unconscious family beliefs. With Mars moving through Aries in this area I’m quite sure there will be a lot of activity at home for the next seven months. This is excellent if you are renovating, but if you’re feeling stuck and there’s no movement at home, then now is the time to plan something and do it. Mars in Aries cannot be ignored, so if you’re not able to do anything physically around the house it may come out as family arguments and frustration. So, find something to do around your house. If you don’t own a home and you rent like I do then I’m pretty certain family activity will show up. We will have more conversations with our family members. Basically, something relating to your home and family will be activated to get your attention so you can take action.
Mars transit the 5th House: This area of the chart is about creative expression, playfulness, amusement and self-expression. We might be more competitive than usual with Mars moving through the 5th house as well. One of things I haven’t talked about in this whole article is Mars also rules sex, with Mars moving through your 5th house, that area is also the area of taking risks of the heart, love affairs, the physical act of making love especially as a form of self-expression. On the flip side the children we create and children in general are part of this sector of the chart as well. Some of us will have more activity with our children in this time period than is typical. There’s a lot of fiery energy in this sector now so I recommend you don’t hold back and have fun in any or all of the ways just mentioned.
Mars transit the 6th House: With Mars in Aries moving through this area of your chart your work and activities you do every day will be energized. This area of the chart naturally ruled by Virgo is the area of service to others – a non-ego position. With the transit of Mars moving through this sector that can cause conflict, since Mars is all ego and action. However, you can take the action of Mars in regards to your everyday work and activity and really run with it, getting a lot accomplished. The 6th house is also your house of health and wellness. So it’s up to you to make sure you take care of yourself. When there are problems physically and Mars is present it typically means there’s a fever, an infection or headaches. To avoid any situation that is not healthy and considering the current pandemic, if you are a person who has Mars moving through your 6th house please be extra cautious for your own sake.
Mars Transit in the 7th House: Partnerships, close relationships, and your relationship with your spouse have already gone through big tests this year when Venus was retrograde in Gemini. From May 13 – June 25 a lot of relationships had to reconsider where they were thanks to that transit. Now for you with Mars in the 7th house, if you didn’t handle things while Venus was retrograde and retracing her steps then, those issues will become even stronger now. We must act in regards to our important partnerships when Mars is here. We cannot ignore issues. Another category of the 7th house, besides just being our partnerships, it’s the house of open enemies and that means people who are against us. You typically know who they are, most likely somebody we are in court with. With Mars in that sector we become more assertive or they become more assertive. We may find ourselves needing to feel compromised or compromising. There is also a positive way we can use this energy. If you and your partner, or whomever that person involved is, are able to speak up and communicate with each other exactly what it is each wants as an individual, and that way you can make the changes that are necessary for a relationship to go forward or not.
Mars Transit in the 8th House: The effects of Mars in Aries moving through this sector of your chart can show up as an awareness around your joint and shared resources. Is it what you want? Is it what your partner wants? How are you sharing the responsibility in the management of joint resources? Mars in Aries will stir up a lot of personal feelings around that so we should be prepared to address any problem with finances and resources. This area of the chart is also about our intimate and private time with our partner. Are your needs being met? Another way Mars in this area may show up is that a powerful individual may come into your life to change everything. A very shamanic experience of transformation can happen here. This is not always the best time to go for a loan but then again, we would need to look at other financial things in your chart to be certain.
Mars Transit in your 9th House: With Mars moving through this area of your chart your beliefs and your ideas may be challenged. It could be time for you to reevaluate what you believe in. This area of the chart is ruled by Sagittarius who is the intellect, the world Explorer, the philosopher, the teacher. If any of those things resonate with you while Mars is moving through that sector for seven months, then you have an opportunity to really put your own flair into whatever that is for you so you can expand your mind, your experiences and even step into a whole new dimension, if you will. This house is also the House of law and court. If you have anything going on in that category then you will most likely be defending yourself in some way.
Mars Transit in your 10th House: When Mars is in the 10th house you are driven regarding your career, your public image and it’s important that you work ethically. We are ambitious to achieve during this transit, but if you have been underhanded then as Mars moves through this area that will come to the surface for all to see. If things are going well in our career, then we will most likely get that recognition that we’re looking for. When Mars moves through this area there are times when we have problems with authority figures such as your supervisor, college professor, teacher or parent. We’re doing our best to be independent but we are challenged when Mars moves through this area. Focus your energy well, and do the best you can not to step on people’s toes while still being assertive.
Mars Transit in your 11th House: When Mars moves through this sector we are driven to engage in group activities, to achieve lifelong goals and to work cooperatively with others. This is the time to work together not alone, even though Mars in Aries can definitely be a loner. Here, we’re learning to be assertive in groups without too much conflict. This area is also physical activity with your friends, and group athletics. For some of us our interest may lie in humanitarian causes and being the activist. You’re going to be pretty feisty in the seven months if Mars is in that sector for you. It will, however, be a little bit difficult for those of us who enjoy getting our egos engaged when we’re in groups of people, because just getting together is different now.
Mars Transit in your 12th House: This one can be tricky. When Mars moves into the 12th house by transit unconscious behaviors get triggered and stirred up. This is very psychological, and activates old and unconscious behaviors along with past life patterns. This is an opportunity to work on those behaviors and patterns. With Mars in this area, it’s good if you’re able to work alone. If you are somebody who works from home this will be easier for you. One way to work with this energy is to be very conscious of your self-defeating thoughts and behaviors. If you’re emotionally triggered, upset and things are coming up for you then it’s important to ask yourself why and where does this come from? Avoid blaming anybody else that’s around you, even if that person is the person who may have triggered these emotions. This is a big opportunity to clear a lot of karma that we all have stored in the 12th house. It just happens to be your time to do it.
